What it assumes. Legs in different games are independent, which is why their fair prices multiply. Legs in the same game are not: a team winning and its players scoring move together, so an SGM priced below its legs can be partly fair. The check shows how far below; it cannot say how much of that is correlation and how much is margin, because that needs a price for the same SGM at other bookmakers. A fair price is yours to supply, usually a sharp bookmaker's price with its margin removed, and the EV is only as good as it.
A multi is good value when its price is longer than its fair price, the price with the bookmakers' margin taken out. For legs in different games the fair price is each leg's fair price multiplied. Legs that are each +EV compound: three legs each 3% over fair make a +9.27% multi. Legs at an ordinary bookmaker margin compound the other way.
EV % = the multi's price / its fair price - 1, which is the same as the price x the fair probability - 1. The fair probability of independent legs is each leg's 1 / fair price multiplied together. Enter a fair price for every leg in the calculator above to see it.
Enter the bookmaker's SGM price and each leg's single price at the same bookmaker. The calculator compares the SGM with its legs multiplied: an SGM at 4.20 on legs of 1.90 and 2.50 (4.75 multiplied) pays 11.6% less. Legs that tend to happen together can justify paying less; the rest is the bookmaker's margin on the combination.
